"Damn," he muttered.

"Sir?"

The captain looked at Owens. "Hang onto your tricorder, crewman. I think we may have discovered a way out of this place, charming as it is."

When the message came from the direction of Beta Cabrini, Uhura was as surprised as anyone.

Up until now, they'd all assumed that one call for help was all the colonists had dared to send-before the Merkaans made it impossible. Apparently, they'd assumed wrong.

"Mister Scott?" she said, turning to the captain's chair, where the chief engineer was firmly entrenched.

He swiveled to look at her. "Aye, Lieutenant?"

"Sir, I've got a communication from the mining colony."

He leaped up from his seat and came around to her station. "From the mining colony? What is it, lass?"

Uhura read it directly off her display "Here daily this time. Await instructions; will confirm."

Scotty looked at her. "This could be helpful- extremely helpful. Mister Spock will want to know about it."

She nodded. "I'll relay it to the library."
